Civil Partnership Service
Civil Partnership Information and services
A Civil Partnership affect the rights regarding Wills and
Inheritance Tax of the individuals involved.
When a civil partnership is registered, any will that either
partner has previously made will be automatically revoked.
If one member of the civil partnership dies without leaving
a will, the married rules of intestacy will apply. Any money
or property left to the surviving partner of the civil
partnership will be exempt from inheritance tax.
However, if the joint estates add up to more than £600,000 then, on second
death, the estate will attract
Inheritance
Tax. This needs to be addressed by anyone who is in a civil partnership.
If you need to know more about this, please feel free to contact us and
we'll be able to talk you through it.
